Exclusive: Club will find it hard to keep Arsenal transfer target this summer, says expert

Fabrizio Romano has responded to Wolves manager Gary O’Neil playing down the prospect of star player Pedro Neto leaving the club in the summer transfer window.

The talented young Portuguese winger is enjoying a superb season in the Premier League, and Romano has previously told us about links with Arsenal and how he thinks he could be an ideal signing for the Gunners as a summer move out of Molineux looks to be on the cards.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside again for the latest edition of his Daily Briefing column, Romano once again made it clear that he felt Wolves would struggle to keep hold of Neto this summer, whatever O’Neil might say.

Wolves fans won’t be too happy to hear this, but it could be hugely encouraging for Arsenal fans, while one imagines there’ll be other clubs put on alert by this update.

Pedro Neto in action for Wolves

Neto is surely too good not to be playing for a big six side, or another top league in Europe, but it seems that Romano expects the 23-year-old could be staying in England.

“Despite what Wolves manager Gary O’Neil said, I think it’s going to be very difficult to keep Pedro Neto at Wolves next summer, this is my feeling,” Romano said.

“He’s appreciated by many clubs, he could stay in Premier League but move to top, top club in the summer.”

  1. Will he accepts to be coming in as subtitude to Saka? if not i would prefer we go for Bailey of Aston Villa or Kudus of Westham. But for me i would prefer Bailey-I love that guy!

  2. Arsenal will not buy Netto, because he has a bad injury record and he would be an expensive bench warmer waiting for Saka to get injured or be rested. Arteta would not want to pay more than £40 million due to his game time and injury risk, besides we Jesus who can substitute for Saka.
Good winger, but it is not as important to fill that gap as we need an all round defensive midfielder and center forward more. Plus it’s a question of availability.

There is of course the available world class Frenkie De Jong who I have been informed has 1 year left on his contract come the summer, and has turned down an extension from ” cash struck Barcelona”. He is also a fan of Arsenal. Arteta could get the world class defensive midfield general for £40 million. He would definitely walk into this Arsenal side, and his ball touches of 105 per game and average 93% pass rates, not to mention his defensive and creative skills, make his even better than Rice. He would be the perfect partner for Rice to learn from and improve his great skills even further. Arteta and Edu will not get another opportunity to get a world class Defensive Midfield General for just £40 million. Also Santiago Gimenez has a low price tag of £55 million. Those two players with the possible exception of Mbappe, would improve Arsenal and take them to the next level.
