After losing out on the Premier League title and the Champions League this season, Arsenal have made a big statement.
The Gunners have lost out on the league title for the last three season and their efforts to win the Champions League this season were thwarted by Paris Saint-Germain at the semifinal stage.
With manager Mikel Arteta looking to strengthen his squad this summer in various positions, the work has already started behind the scenes.
Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has just reported that the Gunners have sealed the deal to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
Arsenal make first move of summer transfer window
Romano reported that the North London club are ready to trigger the release clause of the Spanish midfielder.
The 26-year-old midfielder is set to become Arsenal’s first signing of the upcoming summer transfer window.
Romano wrote on his X account:
Arsenal agree deal to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, here we go!
Zubimendi has now verbally agreed to sign a long term deal… so formal steps must follow soon with Arsenal to trigger €60m clause.
Zubi, ready to become the first signing of the new season.
The Gunners have strengthened their midfield with the signing of the Spain international midfielder.
Zubimendi is a central midfielder who likes to break play and keep possession of the ball.
His ability to build attacks from the midfield and bridge the gap between the defense and attack would be highly beneficial for Arsenal next season.
Arteta has found the replacement of Jorginho

With Jorginho on his way out of the club in the summer, Zubimendi would act as his long term replacement at the club.
It is a statement move from the Gunners to seal the signing of the midfielder who was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool last summer.
Zubimendi decided to reject Liverpool last summer but this summer, the offer from Arsenal convinced him to finally leave his boyhood club to move to the Premier League.
The Gunners are now expected to turn their attention towards signing Benjamin Sesko.
