Florian Wirtz has very clearly struggled in his time at Liverpool so far and reports in Germany have given some insight into why.
It seems Wirtz’s arrival was not exactly warmly welcomed by some of the more experienced members of this Liverpool squad, though it’s not entirely clear why.
The Germany international also seemed to specifically have some issues with the selfishness of former Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, according to Sport Bild, as cited and translated by Sport Witness.
Wirtz looked like a top talent at Bayer Leverkusen, but it seems he’s now facing real uncertainty after such a difficult period at Anfield.

The report also suggests that if Wirtz leaves Liverpool, which looks like a growing possibility, he could stay in the Premier League and have interest from clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea.
The 23-year-old will not be moving this January, according to the report, but one imagines this is increasingly heading towards his situation being seriously reviewed at the end of the season.
Considering how much money Liverpool spent on Wirtz, things surely can’t continue as they are for too much longer, with neither the club nor the player likely to be satisfied with how this relationship has gone.
It would be interesting to see Wirtz trying his luck at another English team, but one imagines he’d surely prefer to move back to Germany, where he previously looked like having a very promising career.
There are, however, perhaps some problems specific to Liverpool that have made his time in the Premier League tough so far, with the Sport Bild report noting the issues with the club’s players, while there has also obviously been a change of manager and sporting director all taking place in the last few months.
